Who are the instructors?

Your instructor at the school has under gone training courses under the British Taekwon-Do council (BTC) and is first aid qualified, he has also been CRB checked.

Chief Instructor:

Mark Empson - who owns and runs the school, is a Forth degree black belt with over 18 years experience in TKD. He has experienced training with world champions and grandmasters such as Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha 9th Degree. He attends training seminars with GM Rhee several times a year. Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha is the leading pioneer of Taekwon-Do in the world and the senior vice president of the ITF.

Mr Empson also has experience within other martial arts such as full contact karate which he took up at the age of 17, shotagan karate, kickboxing and jujitsu which he is still practicing. Mr Empson has been running the school at Bourton since 1998. He is also a fully qualified personal fitness trainer and likes to carry his theories of exercise and fitness development through to his lessons.


Bourton School of TKD is affiliated to the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) who is the governing body for TKD. The school is also affiliated to the United Kingdom Taekwon-Do Association (UKTA) whose president and founder is Grand Master Rhee Ki Ha 9th degree. GM Rhee was the first person to bring TKD to Briton in 1967 and consequently formed UKTA. The UKTA has thousands of members in the UK and holds events such as competitions, gradings, seminars etc on a regular basis Bourton students have full access to these. Bourton is running with students age 6yrs and upward with several families training.
